New Campbell University football coach Mike Minter still has close ties to his former NFL team, the Carolina Panthers.

Minter will announce the team's second-round selection Friday night at the 2013 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York. He will announce the Panthers' 44th overall pick.

Minter spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Panthers. The safety, a second-round draft choice in 1997, helped lead the Panthers to three playoff seasons, including the 2003 NFC Championship and a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII.

In the Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots, Minter suffered a broken left foot in the third quarter, but remained in the game and finished with a career-high 18 tackles.

Campbell named Minter as its second modern-era football coach on Nov. 27.

The draft begins with the first round on Thursday followed by rounds 2 and 3 on Friday and rounds 4-7 on Saturday.
