Also on Day 1, Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor drilled Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, 6-1, 6-1.

Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens bested Spaniard Laura Pous Tio in last year's Moroccan Grand Prix finale, in Fes. Bertens is this week's fifth seed.
