Arsenal to appeal Giroud's red card

Arsenal has decided to appeal the red card shown to Olivier Giroud on Saturday in the 1-0 victory over Fulham.

Giroud received his marching orders in the final minutes of the match after an awkward challenge on Fulham's Stanislav Manolev, which came after Cottager's midfielder Steve Sidwell was sent off in the first half.

The appeal comes as a bit of a surprise considering the post-match comments of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

"It looked like it [a deserved red card]. I spoke with Giroud and he said he slipped when he went for the ball. I don't complain about the decision," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"We have to find a solution up front now for the final games but that can happen and we have to deal with that."

Giroud has tallied 11 goals in 33 Premiership matches this season, but he was given a three-match ban after Saturday's red card, which would rule him out until the final day of the season as third-place Arsenal tries to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
