Tigres remains in top spot with Pachuca defeat

After suffering their first loss of the Mexican Liga campaign last week, Tigres rebounded nicely to record a 3-1 win over Pachuca on Sunday.

The result ensures that Tigres retains it position on top of the Mexican first division with 32 points from 15 matches, one clear of second-place Atlas.

Tigres opened the scoring in the 21st minute through a goal from Carlos Salcido and then made it a two-goal margin four minutes before the break when Lucas Lobos found the back of the net.

After the intermission, Pachuca pulled one back in the 66th minute through Fernando Cavenaghi, but Salcido bagged his second of the day three minutes from time to secure the result.

Elsewhere in Mexico, goals from Amaury Escoto and Wilberto Cosme led Queretaro to a 2-1 victory over San Luis, and a 29th minute tally from Rodrigo Millar pushed Atlas to a 1-0 win over 10-man Guadalajara.

Hector Mancilla scored twice inside of a minute as Morelia edged nine-man Tijuana by a 2-1 count and Cristian Benitez's goal in the 24th minute was enough to lift America to a 1-0 win over UNAM.

Sunday's Liga MX action saw Christian Gimenez and Luis Perea each find the back of the net for Cruz Azul in a 2-0 result against Toluca, while a brace from Esteban Paredes powered Atlante to a 2-0 victory over Puebla.

On Friday, Jaguares and Leon battled to a 2-2 stalemate, while an 18th-minute strike from Felipe Ramirez sent Santos to a 1-0 victory over Monterrey.
