Saul "Canelo" Alvarez won the 154-pound title unification bout by 12-round unanimous decision over Austin "No Doubt" Trout Saturday night at the Alamodome.

Alvarez (42-0-1) came in holding the WBC version of the light middleweight title, and took Trout's (26-1) WBA belt by scores of 118-109, 116-111, and 115-112 in front of 39,427 fans.

Trout, who was making the fifth defense of his WBA title, was sent to the canvas for the first time of his career in the opening seconds of the seventh round. That's when Canelo nailed Trout with a straight right to the face. Trout lost his balance and temporarily hit the canvas.

The WBC's open scoring after the eighth round showed Canelo easily ahead, and he eased up late to take the two championship belts.
