The Boston Red Sox have activated designated hitter David Ortiz off the 15-day disabled list.

Ortiz began the season on the DL because of right Achilles tendinopathy after being limited to just 90 games last year due to a right Achilles injury. He belted 23 home runs and knocked in 60 runs while batting .318 during his shortened 2012 campaign.

The 37-year-old veteran completed a six-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday and batted .222 with a homer and four runs batted in.

Boston opened a roster spot by optioning outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to Pawtucket. He appeared in 12 games, starting 10 in left field, and went just 3-for-31 with five runs scored and three runs batted in.
