The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed third baseman Alberto Callaspo on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right calf. The move was made retroactive to April 12.

Callaspo has not played since exiting an 8-1 loss to Oakland on April 11, having missed the team's last five games due to the injury.

The switch-hitter, who was batting .273 with one home run and three RBI in nine games prior to getting hurt, is the second starting infielder to be sidelined for the Angels. The club placed shortstop Erick Aybar on the DL with a left heel contusion last weekend.

Luis Jimenez has been serving as Anaheim's primary third baseman in the games Callaspo has missed.

To fill the roster spot, the Angels recalled pitcher Michael Kohn from Triple- A Salt Lake. The right-handed reliever went 0-1 with one save and a 7.30 earned run average in 14 games for Anaheim last season.
