The San Francisco Giants have placed pitcher Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain.

Affeldt suffered the injury during the sixth inning of Saturday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

He came in with one out in the inning and got Cliff Pennington to fly out. However, he grabbed himself in pain after throwing a 3-1 fastball to pinch- hitter A.J. Pollock and left the game.

Affeldt is 1-4 with a 3.51 ERA in 38 appearances this season. He was out from April 15-May 3 with a strained right oblique.

To replace Affeldt on the 25-man roster, the Giants have recalled pitcher Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno.

Machi is 2-0 with a 3.58 in 26 games with San Francisco. His last appearance came on July 12, when he threw two perfect innings against the Padres.
