The National Hockey League has reportedly scheduled a pair of outdoor hockey games at Yankee Stadium in the run-up to Super Bowl week in New York.

According to the Bergen Record on Tuesday, the New York Rangers will be involved in both contests, on Jan. 26 against the New Jersey Devils, then three days later against the New York Islanders.

The Rangers were involved in the league's last outdoor venture, on Jan. 2, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park, facing the Philadelphia Flyers. Neither the Devils nor the Islanders have participated in an outdoor game before.

Super Bowl XLVIII is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

To make up for the planned game that was lost due to the latest lockout, the NHL awarded the 2014 Winter Classic back to Michigan Stadium, which will host the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 1, 2014.

There are additional reports stating that the league is planning up to six such games in all during the 2013-14 season.
