The Los Angeles Lakers provided an injury update on guard Steve Nash on Tuesday.

An MRI confirmed several preexisting issues related to Nash's hip and back, which are causing nerve irritation and contributing to his recurring hamstring pain and weakness. He received an epidural injection Tuesday morning and will not play in Wednesday night's regular-season finale against the Houston Rockets.

Nash, who hasn't played since March 30, has averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 assists in 50 games this season, his first with the Lakers. The team remains hopeful that he will be able to return to play in the next several days.

The Lakers hold a one-game lead over the Jazz for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference entering Wednesday's contest.
