Mexico City, Mexico – UNAM handed Tigres its first loss of the Mexican Liga season on Sunday, claiming a 2-1 victory at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
The match started brightly for the visitors as Emanuel Villa put them in front with a goal in the eighth minute of play, but UNAM got on equal terms four minutes later thanks to an own goal from Hugo Ayala.
Martin Bravo struck in the 32nd minute with what turned out to be the game- winner, helping UNAM continue its fine run of form. Pumas had only moved into the top five of the Mexican Liga last week, a position that the club retains for another round as it moves to 23 points on the season.
Tigres, which began the campaign with a 13-match unbeaten run, remains at the summit of the Liga table with 29 points.
Atlas played to a 2-2 draw with San Luis on Saturday, a costly result given Sunday's slip-up from Tigres. A win would have lifted Atlas to first place, but instead the club settles for second place by improving to 28 points.
Also on Saturday, third-place America was held to a 1-1 draw at Leon as Matias Britos and Cristian Benitez exchanged goals inside the opening nine minutes, 10-man Monterrey edged Pachuca in 2-0 win with goals coming from Jesus Manuel Corona and Neri Cardozo while Cruz Azul laid a 5-0 thumping on Tijuana.
In Sunday's supplemental action, Jorge Marcelo Rodriguez scored four minutes from time to see Jaguares pick up a 2-1 win over Puebla and Paul Uscanga scored the winner in the 89th minute to help Atlante to a 2-1 victory over Guadalajara.
A pair of second-half goals from Cesar Ibanez and Oribe Peralta guided Santos to a 2-1 victory over Toluca on Friday while Morelia rode Hector Mancilla's 77th-minute strike to all three points in a 1-0 triumph over Queretaro.
