Montreal, QC – Dominic Oduro's second-half tally rescued a point for the Columbus Crew for the second consecutive week in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Montreal Impact on Sunday at Saputo Stadium.
Both clubs had ample opportunities to break through in the first half, but neither side was able to capitalize and find the back of the net.
After the break, Montreal had the better of the play for much of the second half and appeared to have scored the first goal of the day in the 63rd minute when Andres Romero slid the ball through the Columbus backline to Marco Di Vaio, who picked his spot and fired it into the bottom left corner, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.
After a questionable offside call, Di Vaio made it count in the 68th minute when a ball fell to his feet outside the Columbus penalty area and he blasted it past Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum for the 1-0 lead.
But just four minutes later, Oduro came to the rescue for his club when he took a touch to corral a ball in the box before firing a rising, left-footed strike into the top right corner, leaving Montreal netminder Troy Perkins with no chance for a save.
Montreal sent numbers forward in search of a winner, but it never came to fruition and the clubs were forced to settle for a point.
The Impact have a bye next week and will return to action on April 27 against the Chicago Fire, while Columbus will travel to Toyota Park to battle the Fire next Saturday.
