John Isner won his first career clay-court title on Sunday, besting Spanish specialist Nicolas Almagro in straight sets to win the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

Isner, the first American to reach an ATP final this year, downed the top- seeded Almagro by a 6-3, 7-5 margin in one hour, 21 minutes at River Oaks Country Club.

Isner was seeded fifth following his runner-up finish to Juan Monaco last year. He atoned that defeat in Saturday's semifinals with a three-set win over Monaco and denied Almagro a 13th career clay court crown.

The title is the sixth of Isner's career and added $82,300 to his career earnings.
