Major League Baseball handed down an eight- game suspension plus an undisclosed fine to Cleveland Indians starter Carlos Carrasco on Friday.

Carrasco was ejected in the fourth inning of a 14-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday after intentionally throwing near, then hitting Yanks infielder Kevin Youkilis.

The 26-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, but must serve the ban while in the majors. Should he decide not to appeal, the suspension will begin as soon as he is recalled to Cleveland.

Carrasco had been suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for throwing at Kansas City's Billy Butler in August of 2011.
