Campbell University introduced Kevin McGeehan as its new head men's basketball coach during a Thursday press conference.
McGeehan comes to the Camels after spending the previous eight seasons as an assistant at Richmond, including the last five as associate head coach. He inherits a Campbell program that went just 13-20 in 2012-13, which prompted the university to not renew the contract of former head coach Robbie Laing.
During McGeehan's tenure at Richmond, the Spiders made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011 and reached the Sweet 16 in the latter of those two seasons. Richmond also won a school-record 29 games in 2010-11, as well as the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship.
"I am delighted Kevin McGeehan has accepted our offer to become the next head basketball coach at Campbell University," Campbell president Dr. Jerry M. Wallace said. "I am convinced his experience and success at the University of Richmond has prepared him to lead our program to championship results."
Prior to his stop at Richmond, McGeehan served as an assistant at the Air Force Academy under current Spiders head coach Chris Mooney for the 2004-05 season, helping the Falcons to an 18-12 record.
