The Toronto Blue Jays claimed outfielder Casper Wells off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

Wells, 28, played in 93 games for the Mariners last season, posting a .228 batting average with 10 home runs and 36 RBI, He was designated for assignment on March 31 to make room for Jason Bay on the 25-man roster.

Wells was acquired by Seattle in a trade with Detroit on July 30, 2011, along with pitcher Charlie Furbush and infielder prospect Francisco Martinez in exchange for pitchers Doug Fister and David Pauley.

In parts of three seasons with the Tigers and Mariners, Wells has a .246 career average with 25 home runs and 80 RBI.
