Ian Silverman (Baltimore, Md.) set world records in the men's 800-meter and 1,500 freestyle S-10 events at the 2013 U.S. Paralympics Spring Swimming Nationals in Minneapolis, held April 4-6. Victoria Arlen (Exter, N.H.), Kayla Wheller (Seattle, Wash.), Nora Nir-Kistler (Allentown, Pa.), Haley Beranbaum (Snohomish, Wash.) also posted record-setting performances.

SIGHTS SET ON GOLD

After dropping its opening game to Canada, 3-2, in a shootout on April 2, the U.S. Women's National Ice Hockey Team rebounded with victories over Finland and Switzerland to advance to the semifinals of the 2013 IIHF World Women's Championship in Ottawa, Ontario.

ARCHERY

Khatuna Lorig (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Brady Ellison (Payson, Ariz.) each won silver medals in the women's and men's recurve finals at the AAE Arizona Cup, held April 7 in Phoenix. Meanwhile, Van Natta (Toledo, Ohio) won gold in the women's compound and Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) claimed silver in the men's compound.

BOXING

Twenty-seven national champions were crowned at the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships, held April 1-6 in Spokane, Wash. Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas) continued her domination of the flyweight division, winning her seventh gold medal, while light flyweight Leroy Davila (New Brunswick, N.J.), flyweight Malik Jackson (Washington, D.C.) and Eduardo Martinez (Aurora, Ill.) also took home titles.

CURLING

Team USA posted a 5-6 record at the 2013 Ford World Men's Curling Championship, held March 30 - April 7 in Victoria, British Columbia. Led by skip Brady Clark (Lynnwood, Wash.), the U.S. won four of its final six draws, including a 9-7 victory over Sweden in its final game.

CYCLING

Kate Courtney (Kentfield, Calif.), Mary McConneloug (Chilmark, Mass.) and Jacqueline Harmony (Tucson, Ariz.) each won gold medals at the 2013 Pan American Continental Mountain Bike Championships on April 7 in Tucuman, Argentina. Courtney won the junior women's cross-country race, while McConneloug topped the podium in the elite women's event and won downhill gold.

EQUESTRIAN

McLain Ward (Brewster, N.Y.), riding Rothchild, defeated Reed Kessler (Lexington, K.Y.) and Mika to win the 2013 $200,000 Gene Mische American Invitational on April 7 in Tampa, Fla. Ward piloted Rothchild to a double-clear finish during a two-horse jump-off for the title.

FENCING

Sabrina Massialas (San Francisco, Calif.) captured the silver medal in the cadet women's foil competition at the 2013 Cadet World Championships on April 7 in Porec, Croatia. In the men's saber event, 17-year-old Jonah Shainberg (Rye, N.Y.) was the top U.S. performer, finishing 10th.

GYMNASTICS

Peyton Ernest (Coppell, Texas) won the all-around silver medal at the 2013 Tokyo World Cup on April 7. Ernest tallied 56.550 points to finish ahead of Asuka Teramoto of Japan.

SAILING

Anne Haeger (East Troy, Wis.) and Briana Provancha (San Diego, Calif.) captured the bronze medal in the women's 470 at the ISAF Sailing World Cup, held April 1-6 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Sydney Bolger (Long Beach, Calif.) and Sarah Lihan (New York, N.Y.) also landed in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in the w470.

In the men's 470, Stuart McNay (Providence, R.I.) and David Hughes (Miami, Fla.) won the only race completed on April 6 due to dying winds. In the 68-boat fleet competition, the pair finished seventh overall in the six-day competition.

SHOOTING

National junior team member Starlin Shi (Potomac, Md.) captured her third straight National Junior Olympic Shooting Championship title on April 6 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Rounding out the top three finishers in the women's sport pistol competition were Cindy Chung (Diamond Bar, Calif.) and Taylor Gallegos (Prosper, Texas).

Meanwhile, the U.S. men's rifle team continued its world cup success with all members finishing inside the top-15 in the men's 50-meter prone rifle event at the ISSF World Cup, held in Changwon, Korea. Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.) earned silver despite tough weather conditions. Eric Uptagraff (Phenix City, Ala.) finished ninth while Jason Parker (Omaha, Neb.) finished 15th.

SOCCER

On the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Soccer Federation, the U.S. women's national team posted a 3-3 tie with Germany in its international friendly on April 5 in Offenbach, Germany. Abby Wambach (Rochester, N.Y.), Megan Rapinoe (Redding, Calif.) and Alex Morgan (Diamond Bar, Calif.) contributed goals for the U.S. that all came in the second half.

In the opening match of the CONCACAF U-17 Championship, held April 7 in Panama City, the U.S. men's team clinched a 3-0 victory over Haiti. With two key goals from Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J.) and a late strike from Ahinga Selemani (Ann Arbor, Mi.), the U.S. now sits in first place in Group C with three points.

SQUASH

Sawyer Chilton (Wilmington, Del.) and Diane Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) went undefeated to capture the girl's U19 title at the 2012 U.S. Junior Doubles Squash Championships on April 7 in Wilmington, Del.

Despite several close, five-game matches, Randy Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and Mason Blake (Philadelphia, Pa.) were also undefeated to secure the boy's U19 title.

TENNIS

Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Sam Querrey (San Francisco, Calif.), 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0, in the Davis Cup quarterfinal on April 7 in Boise, Idaho.

TRACK AND FIELD

London 2012 Olympian Janet Bawcom (Rome, Ga.) captured the USA Women's 10 Mile Championship title on April 7 in Washington, D.C.. The win marks Bawcom's third straight USA 10 mile title, and with her time of 53:28, she broke the single- sex American 10-mile record of 54:38, set by the late Sally Meyerhoff in 2009.

TRIATHLON

Matt Chrabot (Virginia Beach, Va.) opened the 2013 ITU World Triathlon series with a 12th-place finish at the Barfoot & Thompson World Triathlon on April 6 in Auckland, New Zealand. He completed the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10K run in 1:57.40.

WRESTLING

Mark McKnight (State College, Pa.; -55 kg.), Phil Keddy (Iowa City, Iowa; -84 kg.) and Zach Rey (Hopatcong, N.J.; -120 kg.) each claimed individual titles to help Team USA win the men's freestyle team title at the 2013 Pan American Championships on April 7 in Panama City. Drew Headlee (Morgantown, W.V.) won silver at 66 kg., to add to the U.S. individual medal haul.
