Angels ace Jered Weaver has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a fracture in his left elbow.

The right-hander was hurt Sunday against Texas when he fell while trying to avoid a line drive hit by Mitch Moreland. Weaver slipped as he made the pitch, then put all his weight on his left arm, which appeared to buckle slightly.

The Angels said Weaver suffered a non-displaced radial head fracture in the elbow, an injury that will keep him sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks.

"I slipped on the mound and was trying to catch myself from falling down," said Weaver after the game, "and next thing you know there's a bullet coming at you. If it hit somewhere on my body, there would have been more pain issues involved. The left elbow is better than the right arm, that's for sure."

Weaver is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two starts this season. The three-time All- Star is coming off his first 20-win campaign in 2012.

The Angels purchased the contract of pitcher Dane De La Rosa from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the roster spot and cleared space on the 40-man roster by transferring pitcher Andrew Taylor to the 60-day DL.
