The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that defenseman Alexei Emelin will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Emelin was injured during the first period of Saturday's 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins when he collided with Milan Lucic. Emelin appeared to line himself up to initiate contact against the burly Boston forward, but got the worst of the exchange and fell awkwardly to the ice.

In 38 games this season, the second-year blueliner posted three goals and nine assists.
