Paris, France – PSG and Barcelona opened up their Champions League quarterfinal affair with a 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
Lionel Messi had given visiting Barcelona the lead by the break only to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic get PSG on equal terms on the other side of halftime.
Barcelona thought it had done enough for the win when Xavi converted a late penalty kick, but an even later strike from Blaise Matuidi, assisted by some slack goalkeeping from Victor Valdes, saw the Ligue 1 side level the aggregate score.
The two away goals mean that the tie is still in Barcelona's favor, leaving PSG with all to do in the return leg at Camp Nou on April 10.
The home side nearly got in front in just the fifth minute of play on Tuesday when a weaving run from Ezequiel Lavezzi saw the striker get in a one-on-one situation with Valdes, but the Argentine's effort came back off the post to allow the Catalans to clear their lines.
PSG created a couple more chances but was left to rue its inefficiency when Barcelona grabbed the first goal of the contest seven minutes before the halftime interval.
Dani Alves collected a PSG clearance at the top of the box and picked out Messi with a sublime aerial pass. The Argentine did the rest, slamming the delivery across Salvatore Sirigu and just inside the far post.
The two sides remained level until PSG equalized in controversial fashion 12 minutes from time.
A free kick was nodded on frame from the center of the penalty area but denied by Valdes. Ibrahimovic, who was in an offside position when the header advanced the ball, pounced on the rebound and stuffed it home for his third Champions League goal of the campaign.
Barcelona regained the lead when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. Alexis Sanchez latched on to a through ball and drew contact from the on-rushing Sirigu, allowing Xavi to cooly slot home the ensuing spot-kick.
But PSG managed to claim a draw thanks to a dramatic goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Ibrahimovic nodded down a long ball into the box for Matuidi to lash a first-time effort toward goal. The shot received a deflection that wrong-footed Valdes as his trickled over the goal line.
Bayern Munich 2, Juventus 0
Munich, Germany - Bayern Munich jumped out to comfortable edge in its Champions League quarterfinal tilt with Juventus, claiming a 2-0 victory over the Serie A club at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
The home side wasted little time getting on the scoresheet as David Alaba's deflected strike from distance 24 seconds into the contest wrong-footed Gianluigi Buffon on its way into the back of the net. It was the second- fastest goal ever scored in the knockout round of Champions League play.
The lead was doubled shortly after the hour mark when Mario Mandzukic collected Buffon's parried save and centered the ball for Thomas Muller to tuck home from close range.
Juventus lies in a tricky situation ahead of Wednesday's return leg at Juventus Stadium, needing to overturn a two-goal aggregate deficit while remaining cautious to not concede an away goal to Bayern.
