Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash is expected to miss the team's pivotal contest with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.

Nash tried playing on Saturday against Sacramento, but lasted only two minutes before hip and hamstring injuries forced him from the contest. Both the Lakers and Mavericks are fighting for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Utah Jazz currently sit eighth in the West, holding a half-game lead over Los Angeles and a two-game lead over Dallas.

Nash hasn't missed a game since late December when he returned from a 24-game absence while healing from a small fracture in his left leg. He will be evaluated daily and Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said there's a chance he will be ready for Friday's contest against Memphis.

The 17-year-veteran has averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 assists in 50 games during his first season in Los Angeles.
