Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams is excelling at the most important time of the season, leading the Orange to the Final Four.

He's done it by trying to keep his mind focused on the court even while trying to help his family deal with their home being hit by a fire a week ago.

Carter-Williams says: "When it comes time for basketball, everything else is kind of irrelevant."

He was chosen as the top player in the East Regional for helping No. 4 seed Syracuse beat No. 1 seed Indiana, then No. 3 seed Marquette, to make it to the Final Four for the first time since winning the 2003 NCAA championship.

Syracuse (30-9) will play Michigan or Florida in the national semifinals at Atlanta next Saturday.
