Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros has gotten the first hit of the 2013 major league baseball season.

Altuve singled off Matt Harrison of the Texas Rangers in the bottom of the first inning Sunday night. Houston hosted the opener, and 12 more games are scheduled for Monday.

The season began with Astros right-hander Bud Norris throwing a called strike to Ian Kinsler at 7:08 p.m. CDT. Kinsler later flied out.

This was the Astros' first game as a member of the American League. They shifted over from the National League during the offseason.
