Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Paul Martin will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a broken bone in his wrist that will require surgery.

Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma made the announcement prior to Saturday's game against the New York Islanders, stating that Martin is expected to be sidelined around six weeks. The veteran blueliner apparently sustained the injury during Thursday's 4-0 victory over Winnipeg, which extended Pittsburgh's winning streak to 14 games.

Martin had been in the midst of a strong season, topping all Pittsburgh rearguards in goals (6) and points (21) while recording a plus-12 rating in 33 games.

The Penguins are also currently without two-time All-Star defenseman Kris Letang, who's dealing with a lower-body injury.
