Bayern eyes title against Hamburg

Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich could have the chance to clinch the Bundesliga title on Saturday with a win against Hamburg if other results go the right way.

If Borussia Dortmund fails to win at Stuttgart earlier in the day, Bayern can lift the trophy with a home victory over Hamburg and clinch the title earlier than any other German side.

But according to Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the team will not be in a celebrating mood regardless of the outcome.

"As soon as the final whistle blows, our concentration will turn to the difficult and highly-interesting Champions League quarterfinal against Juventus," Rummenigge said.

Bayern will host Juventus on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, and even if Stuttgart is able to hold off Dortmund, Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes doesn't believe the Hamburg match will be straightforward.

"Hamburg are an unpredictable side and on a good day, they play fantastic football," Heynckes said.

"We must not make the mistake of taking the second step before we have taken the first."

Bayern's attention may be divided, but Hamburg still harbors hope of reaching a European place, and any points the club can collect on Saturday will be huge toward achieving that goal.

Dortmund is also preparing for a Champions League match at Malaga on Wednesday and with the club four points clear of Bayer Leverkusen for second place, it would be easy for the team to be a bit distracted when it visits Stuttgart.

Leverkusen tries to strengthen its hold on a top-three place with a win at relegation-battling Dusseldorf, which sits five points above the drop zone.

The race for fourth is a tight one in Germany and Eintracht currently occupies that spot on goal difference, although the club should earn three points at last-place Greuther Furth on Sunday.

Schalke is level with Eintracht on 39 points and hosts second-from-the-bottom Hoffenheim, while Mainz sits one point adrift and hosts Werder Bremen.

Monchengladbach is also very much in the discussion for fourth and visits fellow European hopeful Freiburg.

Augsburg is five points from safety and hosts Hannover, and Wolfsburg squares off with Nurnberg at the Volkswagen Arena with the two teams separated by three points.
