The San Diego Chargers released offensive tackle Jared Gaither on Wednesday.

Gaither played in just four games last season due to injuries. He ended the season on injured reserve.

He'll count $6 million against the cap this year.

Gaither was claimed off waivers by San Diego in November of 2011 after being let go by the Kansas City Chiefs. He started San Diego's final five games at left tackle. The Chargers re-signed the Maryland product to a four-year contract in 2012.

Gaither has played in 52 career games (37 starts) with the Ravens, Chiefs and Chargers. He missed the entire 2010 season while with Baltimore due to a back injury.
