Bill Haas wanted to make up for his sloppy finish in the opening round at Bay Hill. He did that and more Friday.

Haas kept bogeys off this card and had a 6-under 66 to take a one-shot lead among the early starters in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Haas hit 15 greens in regulation and didn't have a putt for par longer than 4 feet.

He was at 9-under 135, one shot ahead of John Huh (66).

Justin Rose, the first-round leader after a 65, and Tiger Woods were among the late starters.

Phil Mickelson won't be around for the weekend. He four-putted from 5 feet for triple bogey and shot 79, missing his first cut since the British Open last summer.
