A person with knowledge of the negotiations says linebacker Parys Haralson has restructured his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in a move that saves the team space under the salary cap.

Haralson was already signed through the 2013 season, meaning he reworked his current deal with the two-time defending NFC West champion Niners. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press on Monday night because the team doesn't formally announce restructured contracts.

The 29-year-old Haralson missed the entire 2012 season for the 49ers with a torn left triceps muscle, and San Francisco lost 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl on Feb. 3 in New Orleans. He had started all but one regular-season game the previous three seasons, finishing 2011 with 30 tackles, two sacks and three forced fumbles.
