Davie, FL – The Miami Dolphins continued their free-agent shopping spree on Friday, agreeing to a one-year deal with former New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller.
The deal, per multiple media sources, is valued at $4.25 million.
The Purdue product, a first-round draft pick in 2008, joins the Dolphins after spending his first five NFL seasons with the AFC East-rival Jets. During his final season in North Jersey, Keller was limited by nagging hamstring and ankle injuries. He played in just eight games, starting five, while catching 28 balls for 317 yards and two touchdowns.
"We are happy that we have been able to reach an agreement with Dustin," said Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland. "We have been able to see first-hand what kind of impact he brings to an offense during his time with the New York Jets and look forward to his contributions as a member of the Miami Dolphins."
Keller has toiled in 72 career games with 48 starts, recording 241 receptions for 2,876 yards and 17 touchdowns over his first five seasons.
Miami, which made a big splash during the opening hours of free agency by signing ex-Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and former Baltimore linebacker Dannell Ellerbe to big-money deals, was in the market for a tight end after losing Anthony Fasano to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the week.
