Craig Brown revealed Thursday that he will step down from his post as Aberdeen manager at the conclusion of the season.

The 72-year-old became Aberdeen's boss in December 2010 after leaving Motherwell, but the former Scotland manager has struggled to achieve success at Pittodrie. Brown led the Dons to two Scottish Cup semifinals but could not secure a top-six finish in the Scottish Premier League last season.

"Having reflected long and hard on the situation, I felt the time was right for me to step down as manager," Brown said in a statement.

Brown will remain involved with Aberdeen as a non-executive director.
