The Houston Texans have released receiver Kevin Walter.

The team announced the move as free agency opened on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Walter signed with the Texans in March 2006 after playing his first three NFL seasons in Cincinnati. Walter caught 41 passes for 518 yards and two touchdowns in 2012 and was the Texans' third-leading receiver.

Walter was due to make $2 million in base salary in 2013. The move leaves the Texans with three receivers on the roster to fill out the depth chart behind All Pro Andre Johnson — Keshawn Martin, Lestar Jean and DeVier Posey.

Safety Glover Quin, fullback/tight end James Casey, outside linebacker Connor Barwin, cornerback Brice McCain, nose tackle Shaun Cody and linebacker Tim Dobbins were among Houston's unrestricted free agents.
