Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (SportsNetwork.com) - Only one-of-four matches was completed on a rainy Monday at the Malaysian Open tennis event.

Montenegro's Danka Kovinic defeated Belgian An-Sophie Mestach 6-4, 6-2 at Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort.

Also on Day 1, Ukrainian qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok was leading eighth-seeded Japanese Ayumi Morita 5-2 when play was called for the day.

Two other scheduled matches were postponed until Tuesday, when the first round is scheduled to be completed, including a bout for top-seeded Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

Czech Karolina Pliskova topped American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in last year's Kuala Lumpur finale. A third-seeded Pliskova will also see action on Tuesday.

This week's titlist will earn $43,000.
