Oklahoma hired former Auburn assistant Jay Boulware as its tight ends coach on Friday, completing an overhaul of the coaching staff that included the departure of three assistants.

Boulware spent the past four seasons at Auburn on Gene Chizik's staff, including the Tigers' national championship season in 2010.

Before that, he served alongside Chizik at Iowa State. He has also worked at Stanford, Utah, Arizona and Northern Illinois.

Boulware played for Oklahoma's archrival, Texas, as an offensive lineman.

Coach Bob Stoops said in a statement that Oklahoma will benefit from Boulware's "recruiting relationships across the country" and his impressive track record as a coach. Stoops also expects Boulware to take on special teams responsibilities, which were also part of his job at Auburn.

Chizik was fired and his staff replaced after Auburn went winless in the SEC last season.
