Michael Higdon scored inside the final 20 minutes on Wednesday to lift Motherwell to a 2-1 win over Celtic at Fir Park, pushing the club up to second place in the Scottish Premier League.

Chris Humphrey opened the scoring for the hosts 31 minutes into the contest, but the league leaders found an equalizer through Georgios Samaras in the 63rd minute.

It looked as through the teams would share the points, but Higdon's tally 10 minutes later secured all three points for the home side.

Despite the setback, the Hoops still have a huge 19 points lead over Motherwell atop the league table and can now shift their focus to the return leg of the Champions League Round-of-16 against Juventus on March 6.

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premier League on Wednesday, Mark Stewart 's 89th- minute goal salvaged a point for 10-man Dundee in a 2-2 draw with St. Johnstone at Dens Park.

Leigh Griffiths bagged his 19th goal of the season two minutes from time to secure a point for Hibernian in a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock, while St. Mirren scored a pair of first-half goals in a 2-0 victory over Hearts at St. Mirren Park.

Inverness and Dundee United played to a scoreless draw at Caledonian Stadium.
