Bundesliga club Greuther Furth announced Thursday that it has sacked coach Mike Buskens.

The promoted club occupies last place in Germany's top flight, winning just two of its opening 22 league matches.

"We know what we have to thank Mike Buskens for, so it was a decision that was very difficult for us," Furth president Helmut Hack told the club's official website. "We still have a chance to stay up. Therefore, we want to try to give the team a new impetus."

Ludwig Preis, the club's U-23 coach, and sporting director Rouven Schroder will oversee first-team affairs until a permanent replacement is appointed.
