Towering Pole Jerzy Janowicz was an easy opening-round winner Monday at the $700,000 Open 13 tennis event.

The seventh-seeded 6-foot-8 Janowicz cruised past fellow big server Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic, 6-2, 6-4, on the indoor surface at Palais des Sports. Janowicz popped nine aces before crossing the finish line in 63 minutes.

Also on day 1, promising Aussie Bernard Tomic saved a match point before upending eighth-seeded Slovak Martin Klizan 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

Juan Martin del Potro, this week's second seed, defeated France's Michael Llodra, the 2010 winner and 2009 runner-up, in last year's Marseille final and is fresh off his title in Rotterdam last week.

This week's top seed is former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych.
