American Coco Vandeweghe breezed past sixth- seeded Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa in their first-round match at the $235,000 U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships.

Vandeweghe broke Scheepers' serve six times and route to a 6-2, 6-1 win in just 65 minutes to advance to the second round.

Another seeded player, No. 4 Heather Watson of Great Britain, had a tough time before outlasting Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) in three hours, 24 minutes on the hardcourts at The Racquet Club of Memphis.

The only other seeded player in action, seventh-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia, had little trouble disposing of Stephanie Foretz Gacon of France, 6-3, 6-1.

The other two first-round matches on Sunday went the distance, as Melinda Czink of Hungary upended Russian Olga Puchkova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and American Lauren Davis downed Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Swede Sofia Arvidsson beat New Zealand's Marina Erakovic in last year's final to capture a second Memphis title in her third final here.
