The New York Giants signed kicker David Buehler to a reserve/future contract on Wednesday, with the former Dallas Cowboy expected to compete for a job in training camp.

Buehler led the NFL with 29 touchbacks on 76 attempts as a rookie kickoff specialist with the Cowboys in 2009, then served as Dallas' primary placekicker the following season. He made 24-of-32 field goals with a long of 53 yards while going 42-of-44 on point-after tries.

The 2009 fifth-round draft choice was beaten out by Dan Bailey for placekicking duties in 2011, but handled kickoffs for four games before being placed on injured reserve in November. He was released with a failed physical designation by Dallas this past March.
