New York, NY – After a tumultuous week that saw four of the top five teams in men's college basketball lose at least once, Indiana remained atop the latest Associated Press poll.
It's the first time in six weeks that a team maintained the No. 1 ranking.
Indiana was one of the teams to lose last week, falling on a last-second shot at Illinois before coming back with a resounding win at Ohio State on Sunday. The Hoosiers received 26 first-place votes and a total of 1,559 points from a nationwide media panel to edge Duke for this week's top spot.
Duke, which was No. 1 twice earlier this season, was the only top-five member to escape unscathed last week, but just barely. The Blue Devils scored the final six points to notch a 62-61 win at Boston College on Sunday and moved up two spots to second in this week's poll with 20 first-place votes and 1,515 points.
Miami-Florida, which handed Duke a resounding defeat in Coral Gables last month, has won 11 straight games and vaulted five places to No. 3 this week. The Hurricanes, unbeaten in the ACC, garnered 17 first-place votes and 1,499 points.
Michigan and Gonzaga round out the top five. The Wolverines lost in overtime at Wisconsin on Saturday and dipped one place to fourth, while Gonzaga moved up one spot from sixth. The Bulldogs earned two first-place votes.
Syracuse, Florida, Michigan State, Arizona and Kansas State complete the top 10. Syracuse moved up three places from ninth, while Florida tumbled five spots from second after suffering its first SEC loss -- an 80-69 setback at Arkansas. Michigan State rose four places from 12th and Kansas State ascended three spots from 13th.
The second 10 consists of Butler, Louisville, Ohio State, Kansas, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, Marquette, New Mexico and Wisconsin. Kansas lost twice last week and dropped nine spots from fifth, while Pittsburgh had the biggest jump within the poll, moving up seven spots from 23rd.
Notre Dame, Memphis, Oregon, Colorado State and Kentucky are the last five teams ranked this week. Notre Dame managed to stay in the poll and improved four places from 25th by following up a dismal loss at Syracuse with a thrilling five-overtime win against Louisville.
This week's newcomers are Wisconsin, Memphis, Colorado State and Kentucky. Of the four, only Colorado State is ranked for the first time this season. Minnesota, Missouri, Cincinnati and Creighton all dropped out this week.
Wisconsin was ranked to start the season and fell out of the poll after a loss at Florida in November, but has won three straight, including the 65-62 overtime victory over Michigan.
Memphis was also ranked at the start of the season and fell out of the poll after two losses at the Thanksgiving tournament in the Bahamas. The Tigers are unbeaten in Conference USA and have won 14 straight since a mid-December loss to Louisville.
Colorado State's only two losses in Mountain West play have come on the road against San Diego State and New Mexico.
Kentucky, meanwhile, was No. 3 to start the season with a new cast after its national championship from a year ago. The Wildcats dropped out of the poll the first week of December after early losses to Duke, Notre Dame and Baylor, but have won five straight heading into a matchup this week at Florida.
In addition to Tuesday's Florida-Kentucky battle, this week's other ranked matchups include Michigan and Michigan State in East Lansing on Tuesday, Pittsburgh visiting Marquette on Saturday and Ohio State at Wisconsin on Sunday.
