The Cleveland Indians on Thursday signed infielder Mike Aviles to a two-year contract with a club option for the 2015 season.

Cleveland acquired Aviles from the Toronto Blue Jays last November. He was Boston's primary shortstop in 2012, hitting .250 while setting career highs with 13 home runs and 60 RBI in 136 games.

Aviles owns a .277 lifetime average with 39 homers and 190 RBI over five major league seasons with the Royals and Red Sox.

Cleveland also signed pitcher Rich Hill to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He went 1-0 with a 1.83 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Red Sox last season.

In 118 career games (70 starts) for the Cubs, Orioles and Red Sox, Hill is 23-20 with a 4.59 ERA.
