Barcelona midfielder Xavi is expected to miss the next two weeks because of a hamstring problem he sustained in his club's 1-1 draw with Valencia on Sunday.

The 33-year-old was substituted late in the match, and after tests, he was released from Spain's team for its upcoming friendly with Uruguay on Wednesday.

Barcelona has issued a statement confirming the extent of the injury, which indicates that Xavi will be facing a race to be fit in time for Barca's Champions League round of 16 first leg contest with AC Milan on Feb. 20.

"After tests revealed a tear in his left hamstring, Xavi Hernandez will be out for the next 15 days and will miss Barca's next two games against Getafe and Granada," the statement said.

Xavi has featured in 22 La Liga contests this season, scoring five goals with five assists.
