Frankfurt, Germany – Hoffenheim's woes continued on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat at Eintracht that drops the club into the bottom two in the league table.
The result extends Hoffenheim's winless streak to nine games and the club now finds itself in position to be relegated for the first time since its arrival in the top flight in 2008.
Martin Lanig fired Eintracht ahead in the 35th minute when his shot took a deflection off of Hoffenheim defender Matthieu Delpierre and made its way over the goal line.
The visitors were back on level terms with 25 minutes to play when Kevin Volland met a cross from Andreas Beck to equalize.
However, Eintracht claimed the win to remain in fourth place when a flicked header from Joselu set up a simple tap in for Stefan Aigner in the 67th.
Freiburg 0, Bayer Leverkusen 0
Freiburg, Germany - Bayer Leverkusen only managed to move to within eight points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday after being held to a 0-0 draw at Freiburg.
A run of six wins in seven games lifted Leverkusen into second place, but Saturday's result means that Bayern can now move 11 points clear with a win at Stuttgart on Sunday.
There were chances for both sides to take something from the match as Freiburg's Jan Rosenthal rattled the crossbar with a volley in the 17th minute, while Leverkusen was the more dangerous team after the break.
Philipp Wollscheid's header struck the post early in the second half for Bayer and Andre Schurrle had a long-range effort denied by the woodwork as well.
Augsburg 0, Schalke 0
Augsburg, Germany - Schalke dropped out of the top five on Saturday after being held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-battling Augsburg.
The home side was bidding to win just its third game in the Bundesliga this season, and Augsburg was unlucky not to come away with all three points against Schalke.
Augsburg duo Ji Dong-Won and Ja-Cheol Koo kept Schalke goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand busy, while the best chance of the match fell to Sascha Molders in the 69th as he beat Hildebrand with a shot that the struck the left post.
Augsburg moves out of the bottom two spots on goal difference ahead of Hoffenheim with the result.
Mainz 3, Greuther Furth 0
Furth, Germany - Mainz continued its pursuit of a top-four spot on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win at last-place Greuther Furth with a pair of second- half goals from Adam Szalai.
It took until the 53rd minute for Szalai to get the scoring started, but Mainz doubled its advantage 12 minutes later through Mali Yunus to seize control.
Szalai then scored his 11th goal of the campaign six minutes from time, helping the visitors claim a fourth win in six matches to remain three points adrift of fourth-place Eintracht.
Greuther Furth has claimed just one point from its last six contests and remains rooted to the foot of the table.
Hannover 2, Wolfsburg 1
Hannover, Germany - Hannover moved into the top half of the Bundesliga on Saturday after first-half goals from Mohammed Abdellaoue and Mame Biram Diouf helped the club to a 2-1 home win over Wolfsburg.
Abdellaoue had the hosts in front just three minutes into the game, but Hannover was reduced to 10 men in the 34th when Sebastien Pocognoli was issued a straight red card for a poor challenge on Wolfsburg midfielder Fagner.
But despite playing a man down, Hannover doubled its lead as Sofian Chahed's cross was headed against the post by Diouf, who knocked home his own rebound.
Wolfsburg dominated play in the second half and pulled to within a goal in the 47th minute through Alexander Madlung, but the visitors couldn't find the equalizer due in large part to some strong goalkeeping from Hannover's Ron- Robert Zieler.
Monchengladbach 2, Dusseldorf 1
Monchengladbach, Germany - Monchengladbach's unbeaten run reached seven games on Saturday after the team claimed a 2-1 win over Dusseldorf at Borussia Park.
The home side jumped out to a two-goal advantage inside of 15 minutes through a sixth-minute own goal from Dusseldorf's Juanan, which was followed by a goal in the 14th from Patrick Herrmann, who redirected a cross from Luuk de Jong past goalkeeper Fabian Giefer.
Dusseldorf cut the deficit in half shortly after the break when De Jong was called for handling the ball inside his own penalty area, which allowed Dani Schahin to score from the spot.
However, the hosts were able to hold out for the win to remain very much in the hunt for a European place.
