Hoffenheim announced Tuesday that it has signed Argentine defender David Abraham from Spanish side Getafe.

Abraham, who previously played for Swiss side FC Basel, has signed a contract with the Bundesliga outfit that will keep him at the Rhein-Neckar Arena until 2016.

"David Abraham has, from the first meeting with us, demonstrated a strong willingness to accept this difficult challenge here at Hoffenheim," the club's general manager Andreas Muller told the club's official website. "I am confident he will help us."

At the time of Abraham's signing, Hoffenheim occupies 16th place in Germany's top flight, sitting in the relegation play-off spot eight points adrift of 15th-place Nurnberg.
