London, England – Manchester United was on the wrong end of a late goal at White Hart Lane on Sunday as Clint Dempsey's equalizer in stoppage time ensured a point for Tottenham in a 1-1 draw between the two sides.
Robin van Persie had netted a first-half lead for United, a goal that looked likely to hold up as the game-winner thanks to a string of superb saves from David De Gea.
But the Red Devils were served a taste of their own medicine as Dempsey scored in the second minute of added time to see United's lead at the top of the table cut to just five points.
United took the lead at the 24-minute mark as Tom Cleverley delivered an inch- perfect cross to the back post where Van Persie was waiting to head the ball past Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham pushed for an equalizer and came close on a couple of occasions.
De Gea came to the rescue five minutes before the break when his reactionary kick save denied Gareth Bale's brilliant side-volley from the top of the box.
The young Spaniard produced another fine save on the other side of halftime, putting Dempsey's attempt just outside the post with his outstretched leg.
The visitors were denied what appeared to be a stone-wall penalty in the 64th minute when Wayne Rooney went down under a challenge from Steven Caulker, but referee Martin Atkinson allowed play to continue despite protests from several Red Devils.
Manchester United was resolute in defending for the remainder of the match, clearing away every ball that Tottenham pumped into the box. But the final whistle could not come soon enough, allowing Dempsey to capitalize.
De Gea punched a deep cross to the side of the penalty area where Spurs were able to collect themselves. As United defenders reshuffled their positions, Dempsey ghosted in to the back post and swept a low pass into the back of the net for his fifth league goal of the campaign.
The result sees United move to 56 points through 23 league games, snapping a four-game winning run in Premier League play. Tottenham remains fourth in the league on 41 points, extending its unbeaten run to seven games.
Chelsea 2, Arsenal 1
London, England - Chelsea emerged victorious from its most-recent London derby, claiming a 2-1 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues found themselves in front early when Juan Mata finished off a pass from Cesar Azpilicueta in the sixth minute. Ten minutes later, Ramires was tripped up in the box by Wojciech Szczesny, and Frank Lampard converted the ensuing penalty to lift the home side to a two-goal edge.
Arsenal cut the deficit in half in the 58th minute when Theo Walcott latched on to a through ball and slipped a shot past Petr Cech. The Gunners continued to battle in search of an equalizer, but the Blue sustained the pressure to take all three points and retain third place on 45 points for the season.
Arsene Wenger's side has dropped two straight league matches to remain on 34 points, staying three points back of fifth-place Everton.
