Chester, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday that defender Carlos Valdes has returned to the club after spending the past 18 months on loan.

The 29-year-old was originally loaned to Independiente in Colombia in January 2013 in an effort to help Valdes secure a place on Colombia's 2014 World Cup team.

Valdes appeared in 32 games for Independiente during the 2013 campaign before he was loaned to Argentine side San Lorenzo this past season, where he made seven appearances before departing for the World Cup.

And after playing in one World Cup game for Colombia, Valdes will now return to the Union on a multi-year contract and will be available for selection in Saturday's home match against Montreal.

Valdes originally joined the Union on loan in January 2011 before the move was made permanent, and he went on to make 65 appearances for the team while also being named an MLS All-Star during the 2012 campaign.
