The Phoenix Coyotes acquired center Matthew Lombardi from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday in exchange for a 2014 fourth-round draft pick.

The trade brings Lombardi, 30, back to the Coyotes, for whom he played parts of two seasons. After arriving in a March 2009 trade with Calgary, Lombardi set personal bests in assists (34) and points (53) during the 2009-10 campaign.

"We are very pleased to bring a player like Matthew back to our team," said Coyotes general manager Don Maloney. "Matthew is a very strong skater who will add quickness and skill to our lineup. He is an intelligent center who will be a great addition to our team and provides us with added depth at the center position."

Last season, the 5-foot-11 Lombardi registered eight goals and 10 assists in 62 games with Toronto.

For his career, Lombardi has totaled 97 goals and 254 points in 508 games with the Flames, Coyotes, Predators and Maple Leafs.
