Rome, Italy – Lazio moved to within three points of Serie A leaders Juventus after notching a 2-0 home win against Atalanta on Sunday.
Juve's 1-1 draw at Parma on Sunday opened the door for Lazio, and despite a stubborn effort from Atalanta, the home side scored a pair of goals in the second half to collect a fourth successive win.
The opening goal didn't arrive until the 67th minute and it came with a bit of controversy as Sergio Floccari appeared to bring the ball down with his hand before scoring on the turn.
Atalanta became frustrated at the lack of a call and the visitors found themselves two goals down 10 minutes later thanks to an own goal as Stefano Mauri's cross was inadvertently knocked beyond goalkeeper Andrea Consigli by his own man, Davide Brivio.
Six minutes later, Atalanta's disappointing day got worse as defender Carlos Carmona picked up his second yellow card, leaving Atalanta with 10 men over the final seven minutes.
Parma 1, Juventus 1
Parma, Italy - Juventus saw its lead at the top of Serie A reduced to three points on Sunday at Parma after the hosts earned a 1-1 draw against the defending champions courtesy of Nicola Sansone's 77th-minute equalizer.
Juventus has earned only one point from its last two games, while Parma has not suffered a home defeat since last March.
The visitors were a bit fortunate to take the lead in the 52nd minute when Andrea Pirlo's free kick took a nasty deflection off of Parma's Jonathan Biabiany, leaving goalkeeper Antonio Mirante stranded.
But Parma battled back to claim a point 13 minutes from time through substitute Sansone, who collected a pass and beat his defender before slotting the ball beyond the reach of Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Napoli 3, Palermo 0
Naples, Italy - Napoli continued its good run of form on Sunday by handling second-from-the-bottom Palermo, 3-0, at the San Paolo Stadium to close to within five points of league lead.
The result is the third straight victory for Napoli and the fifth triumph in seven games for the club, which resides in third place in Serie A.
First-half goals from Christian Maggio and Gokhan Inler had Napoli comfortably in front before Lorenzo Insigne put the result out of reach in the 72nd minute, leaving Palermo with one point from its last six games and four points from safety.
Torino 3, Siena 2
Turin, Italy - Torino survived a late rally from last-place Siena to hold on for a 3-2 home win that moves the club six points clear of the bottom three.
Siena entered the match in the midst of a miserable run of form having lost its last five games, and the club fell behind 3-1 at halftime after conceding goals to Roland Bianchi and Alessio Cerci in the last 10 minutes of the half.
But the visitors came to life after the break and pulled to within a goal 15 minutes from time as Michele Paolucci scored for Siena.
Torino then nearly gave away all three points in the final minute as Matteo Brighi fouled Paolucci inside the penalty area.
Alessandro Rosina stepped to the spot to level the match, but he failed to hit the target, sending the ball wide of the net to hand Torino the win.
Cagliari 2, Genoa 1
Cagliari, Italy - Daniele Conti's goal in the 82nd minute helped Cagliari to a 2-1 comeback win over Genoa on Sunday, lifting the club out of the relegation zone.
Cagliari entered the match on the back of six successive defeats, and the home side fell behind early in the second half when Eros Pisano headed home a corner kick to put Genoa into the lead.
Marco Sau answered in the 55th minute for Cagliari to level the contest, and Conti provided the late heroics to move his side out of the bottom three and plunge Genoa into the drop zone when Danilo Avelar delivered a free kick into the area that Conti got up to head beyond Genoa goalkeeper Sebastien Frey.
Catania 1, Roma 0
Catania, Italy - Roma lost for the third time in four games on Sunday as a second-half goal from Catania's Alejandro Gomez was the difference in a 1-0 defeat for the capital club.
Roma dominated much of the first half as Mattia Destro generated a handful of chances, with one clipping the post and another going down as a costly miss after he fired wide of the net with the goal at his mercy.
Those misses were then punished in the 61st minute by Gomez, who was played through on goal by Gonzalo Bergessio and made no mistake with his finish, placing the ball past Roma goalkeeper Mauro Goicoechea.
Udinese 3, Fiorentina 1
Udine, Italy - Udinese extended its unbeaten run in Serie A to six games after claiming a 3-1 home win against Fiorentina, which dropped to fifth with the defeat.
Udinese fell behind in the 20th minute to an own goal from goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic, but Antonio Di Natale equalized from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time after Maurizio Domizzi was fouled inside the penalty area by Fiorentina's Giulio Migliaccio.
The hosts put the result away midway through the second half with goals from Di Natale and Luis Muriel just one minute apart.
The first came after a through ball from Andrea Lazzari, which was finished off by Di Natale, while Muriel scored on a long-range effort that found the bottom corner of the net.
Sampdoria 0, AC Milan 0
Genoa, Italy - AC Milan's momentum was slowed a bit at Sampdoria on Sunday as the Rossoneri was held to a 0-0 draw, preventing the club from moving into the top six.
Milan had won five of its last six games prior to Sunday's match, but both sides squandered a number of chances at the Luigi Ferraris on Sunday, leaving Sampdoria four points above the bottom three.
Sampdoria knocked off Juventus last weekend, 2-1, and was looking for another big win, but despite the best efforts of Lorenzo De Silvestri, Andrea Poli and Mauro Icardi, Samp came away with only a point.
M'baye Niang had the best chance for Milan, but Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero produced a fine stop to keep out his second-half effort.
