Stoke-on-Trent, England (Sports Network) - It was a day to forget for Jonathan Walters.
The Stoke City defender conceded two own goals and missed a penalty kick en route to the club's 4-0 loss to Chelsea at the Britannia on Saturday, its second successive defeat in league play.
The Potters looked as if they would make it to the halftime break on level terms with the Blues, but Walters turned a diving header into his own net in the second minute of first-half added time.
It got worse for the 29-year-old as he helped double Chelsea's advantage just after the hour mark, nodding another one past Asmir Begovic.
Frank Lampard extended the lead from the penalty spot three minutes later while Eden Hazard put the result beyond any doubt with a screamer in the 73rd minute.
But there was even more misery in store for Walters later in the match. The defender had a chance to save face when he stepped up to take a penalty kick in the dying minutes, but he skied his attempt well over the crossbar to cap a disappointing day at the office.
Stoke City remains stuck on 29 points, 12 points behind Chelsea, which climbs up to third place in England's top flight.
Reading 3, West Bromwich 2
Reading, England - Reading inched closer to a spot outside of the relegation zone, earning three points in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 defeat of West Bromwich at the Madejski on Saturday.
Romelu Lukaku bagged brace to put the Baggies in pole position, but Reading stormed back with three goals in the final eight minutes as Jimmy Kebe, Adam Le Fondre and Pavel Pogrebnyak helped the home side climb to 16 points on the season.
West Brom has lost three Premier League matches in a row to remain on 33 points.
Sunderland 3, West Ham 0
Sunderland, England - Sunderland claimed a commanding 3-0 win over West Ham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to snap a two-game slide.
Sebastian Larsson opened his Premier League scoring account for the season by getting the Black Cats off the mark in the 12th minute while Adam Johnson and James McClean wrapped up the affair with goals in the 47th and 74th minutes, respectively.
Sunderland improves to 25 points, one point behind West Ham, which has lost three of its last four in league play.
Norwich City 0, Newcastle 0
Norwich, England - Newcastle kept its fourth clean sheet of the season on Saturday, playing to a 0-0 draw at Norwich City.
The Canaries nearly broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Russell Martin's strike from distance struck the woodwork, but Newcastle sustained the late pressure to come away with a well-earned point and snap a three-game losing skid.
Norwich, which ended a four-game slide with the draw, improves to 26 points, five points better than Newcastle.
Fulham 1, Wigan 1
London, England - Fulham and Wigan exchanged goals on either side of halftime in a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Giorgos Karagounis opened the scoring for Fulham in the 22nd minute with his first-ever Premier League goal, but it was canceled out in the 71st minute by Franco Di Santo's fourth goal of the campaign.
Wigan improves to 19 points to climb out of the relegation zone while Fulham improves to 25 points.
Everton 0, Swansea City 0
Liverpool, England - Swansea City extended its unbeaten run in league play to five games after earning a point in a 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Swans have taken seven points over that stretch to move to 30 points for the season.
The Toffees retain fifth place in the table - at least until Arsenal plays Manchester City on Sunday - by improving to 37 points.
Southampton 1, Aston Villa 0
Birmingham, England - Southampton moved out of the danger zone on Saturday, riding Rickie Lambert's first-half penalty to a 1-0 defeat of Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The Saints were awarded a generous penalty just after the half-hour mark and Lambert made no mistake with the ensuing attempt, firing home his ninth goal of the campaign.
Southampton, now unbeaten in its last four Premier League outings, held on to that goal to climb to 21 points, forcing Aston Villa into the drop zone on 19 points.
QPR 0, Tottenham 0
London, England - QPR remained in the relegation zone after managing just a point from its 0-0 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.
It was a tame affair at Loftus Road, but the result sees Harry Redknapp's side go unbeaten in its last two matches and improve to 14 points on the season.
Tottenham sees its three-game winning run come to an end as it drops to fourth place with 40 points.
