Lyon tops Troyes to return to Ligue 1 summit

Lyon took full advantage of PSG's scoreless draw on Friday, earning a 2-1 victory over Troyes at the Stade de l'Aube on Saturday to return to the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Maxime Gonalons, who recently was announced as Lyon's new captain, put the visitors in prime position by opening the scoring 11 minutes into the match.

The home side was level by halftime thanks to Benjamin Nivet's 38th-minute strike, but it was Samuel Umtiti's goal 16 minutes from time that sealed the win for Lyon.

Troyes remains second from bottom in the table, stuck on 13 points.

Remi Garde's side has won two straight league matches to improve to 41 points, moving two points clear of PSG.

Lyon has managed to separate itself from the pack of teams vying for European places after Rennes and Lorient suffered defeats on Saturday. Bordeaux topped Rennes in a 2-0 win at the Stade de la Route de Lorient to leave the two sides level on 32 points, one point better than Lorient, which was edged 2-0 by Montpellier thanks to a brace from Gaetan Charbonnier.

Also on Saturday, Brest earned a 2-0 win over 10-man Evian thanks to a penalty kick from Eden Ben Basat and a late goal from Bruno Grougi while Thomas Ayasse netted an equalizer eight minutes from time to help Nancy earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Lille.

Brest has won two of its last three Ligue 1 contests to improve to 24 points while Evian has lost three straight to remain on 19 points.

Nancy remains in the relegation zone despite getting its 12th point of the season. Lille, unbeaten in its last five league outings, improves to 30 points.
