Sergio Ramos has been banned for five matches for his sending off and subsequent reaction in Real Madrid's Copa del Rey defeat of Celta Vigo, it was announced Thursday.

Ramos was shown a second yellow card in the 72nd minute of Wednesday's affair and proceeded to lambaste the referee before exiting the pitch.

The Spanish Football Federation ruled for Ramos to be given a one-match ban for his dismissal.The additional four-match suspension stems from article 94 of the RFEF's disciplinary code, which relates to "insults, verbal offences and abusive attitudes" toward officials.
